My name is Arthur Clark. I am a NYU graduate, a disabled veteran, a Trenton New Jersey native, and for too many years — a landscaper. Not because I lacked the intelligence, the drive, or the vision to do more. But because nobody ever sat with me and said — here is exactly how you translate what you have into what you deserve.
That is what the Urban Institute exists to do. Not for the unemployed — there are programs for that. Not for the formerly incarcerated — there are programs for that too. We exist for the working poor. The people who get up every single day, work themselves to exhaustion, pay their taxes, raise their children, and still cannot break through because the system was not designed to let them advance. It was designed to keep them exactly where they are.
Our work
The Urban Institute for Professional Development does three things.
We Coach. We Connect. We Build.
We coach working class Black adults through the educational and career decisions that changes the trajectory of their lives.
We connect them to the colleges, trade schools, certifications, and workforce programs that fit their real lives and real goals.
We Build the professional infrastructure -the resume, the plan, the network, he confidence- that makes the next chapter possible.

Our Story
The Urban Institute was founded by Arthur Clark a NYU graduate, disabled veteran, and Trenton native who spent years cutting grass while carrying a vision that the system never gave him the roadmap to build. He built this organization because he was the person it was designed to serve he knows what it feels like to work hard and still fall behind. And he knows what changes when someone finally sits with you and says~he is exactly how you get from where you are to where you deserve to be.
That is what we do here. For everyone who walks through the door.
